Throughout the 21st century, there has been one form of hate and hate speech that is both permissible and even praiseworthy in the public sphere, namely antizionism. Protected from accusations of “antisemitism” despite extensively using its memes and themes, anything that Palestinians claimed about Israel — genocide, mass murder of civilians, mass starvation — found ready echo among Western “progressives,” with nary a thought to the consequences of repeating hateful lies. Antizionists proudly proclaimed they were not antisemites, and even founded centers for the “critical” study of Zionism (much as the Nazis founded centers for the “scientific” study of the “Jewish Problem” to develop a “scientific teaching” whose conclusion was “we must annihilate the Jews”). Only recently have people begun to become aware that antizionism is its own unique avatar of a millennia-old fear and hatred of Jews, its own unique form of hate-speech. Today, we announce the launch of the Journal for the Critical Study of Antizionism, dedicated to critiquing this intentionally inversional discourse.
