Christian communities have lived continuously across the Middle East for nearly two thousand years — long before the region's current religious majority existed. Over the last few decades, and especially the last twenty years, those communities have been shrinking at a pace that puts their long-term survival in the region in real doubt.

This isn't a story about ancient history. It's happening within a single living generation — through violence, forced displacement, and systematic pressure to leave, largely at the hands of jihadist and Islamist movements operating in the same countries where these communities have always lived.

This day draws on the documented work of researchers who've spent years tracking these communities' decline, country by country, to make one basic fact visible: entire, ancient communities are disappearing, largely without Western media, or even Western Christian groups, treating it as the major story it is.
