Day 24 — October 4

The Jihad Nobody Covers: South Asia

One of the world's most violent ongoing fronts barely registers in Western news.

The Indian subcontinent has one of the longest, most sustained histories of jihadist violence anywhere in the world — predating 9/11 by almost a century, and continuing today. Despite the scale and duration of that violence, despite the fact that millions have been killed and tens of millions displaced at the very same time as the Palestinian “Naqba,” it gets a small fraction of the Western media attention paid to the conflict over the land twixt river and sea.

This day is dedicated to making that front visible: who the groups are, why they fight, who they target, and why a conflict of this size and duration has stayed so far outside the Western public's field of view.
